  • Why Stereo?

I have over 3000 recordings on records, CDs, tapes including reel to reel.  Out of all there is only one track that benefits by being played in stereo. This track is Duelling Banjos, in which the audible separation of the two banjos is crucial. This leaves 2999 tracks for which stereo recording and playback is of no benefit. Stereo was (and still is) a gimmick without any logic

Are we claiming that all the musicians from orchestras to the Beatles have been getting it all wrong over the last 200-300 years? Should they scatter themselves around the various venues so that we can get a stereo effect? Should the opera singer stand at the opposite end of the concert hall to the orchestra? If they did I think you would find it very aggravating.

For over 20 years I used a KT 66 push-pull mono amplifier for parties, general get-togethers etc, and my guests included many stereo enthusiasts. yet I was never asked why I was only using mono. This was not because my guests were too polite to say anything, it was because they were listening to the music, or criticising the music or oblivious to the music. Whether it was in stereo or mono was irrelevant.

For those of you old enough to remember the introduction of stereo players will also remember the demonstration records in which you heard all sorts of unusual effects like footsteps walking across your room etc. Did you ever buy a recording with this type of effects on it? Apart from the original demonstration records very few were ever made.

A few years ago the BBC ran a demonstration of quadraphonic radio broadcasting and it was quite impressive, with people apparently walking and talking behind you. However, clever as it is, it really has no practical application to the public. Possibly about once a year some program could be broadcast that would benefit from this, but for 99.9% of the time it would be useless.

Stereo and quadraphonics in television are actually aggravating because they distract you from the program because if a parrot apparently speaks behind you, you have a natural tendency to look towards it, thus missing something more important on the screen.

It really is time we got back to common sense in general as well as physics.

Hello, i think that i saw you visited my weblog so i came to “return the favor”.I’m trying to find things to improve my website!I suppose its ok to use a few of your ideas!!
Why would it be OK to steal my copyright articles to use on your scam site? If you cannot supply a checkable address which I or the police can visit, then you have something to hide.

Good post! I have a random question for you. How do you get your blog indexed by bing? I have a related web blog..
As far as I know you don’t. I have had numerous comments from people who say that they have arrived at my web site via Bing, yet I have never contacted bing. Search engines such as Google, Yahoo etcetera search the web using ‘spiders’ that collect information relating to web sites. Showing on my statistics page at the moment are the following search engines;- Google (USA), Vagabondo (Holland, I think), Yandex (Russia), Baidu (China), Sosospider, Radian6, Yahoo!, CatchBot, Java, Moreover, i.e the top 10. Bing was there but has dropped out of the top 10. This top ten is in the order of most ‘spider’ visits.

Hello there! This is my first comment here so I just wanted to give a quick shout out and say I genuinely enjoy reading your posts. Can you recommend any other blogs/websites/forums that deal with the same subjects? Thank you!
There would be no point in me writing posts if the same points were covered by other sites.

I think what you published was very reasonable. But, consider this, suppose you wrote a catchier title? I mean, I don’t want to tell you how to run your website, but what if you added a title that makes people desire more? I mean Why Stereo? | Physics or Fantasy is kinda boring. You ought to glance at Yahoo’s home page and see how they create article headlines to grab people to click. You might try adding a video or a related picture or two to get people excited about everything’ve got to say. Just my opinion, it would make your posts a little bit more interesting.
Some people have strange ideas. This post stands at number one on Yahoo out of 43,500,000 posts. (It stands at number 35 out of 332,000,000 on Google). Number 2 on Yahoo is ‘Why’.
There are thousands of posts using ‘Why Stereo’ as part of their title, so why is my post at number one?
      1. ‘Word of mouth’ from people who have read it and like it
      2. From reading other posts on my web site.
This post was written to add a bit of light relief to my website which is generally more serious.

Number 2 on Yahoo ”Why’ probably earns its position for the same reason.

Hi Ab. If I was aware of someone else covering the same topic I would not have posted mine. It would be wasting my time, wasting other readers time and cluttering up the web.
In my younger days I used to build radios and amplifiers, and suffered from many people talking about how brilliant their stereo kits were. I could never see any advantage in it.
I wrote the post to explain the reasons for my thinking.
